It’s the 330d xDrive that we have on test. The 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine puts out 261bhp and produces 580Nm of torque, so there’s plenty of power on offer (BMW claims a 0-62 figure of 5.4 seconds so this is certainly no slouch). The eight-speed gearbox is seamless in its delivery and allows smooth acceleration whatever the situation.

The key difference is that the 330d uses one turbocharger, while the 335d is twin-turbocharged. This gives them 255hp and 308hp respectively. It’s also worth mentioning that while they’re both available with an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive, you may be able to find some older 330d models with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
